At the "Oncology of the Future" conference in St. Petersburg, we presented on delayed reconstruction for tumors of the lower rectum.
On October 2 and 3, 2026, St. Petersburg hosted the 9th Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation, "Oncology of the Future". On October 3, a session on rectal cancer surgery explored the arguments for and against transanal mesorectal excision for low-lying tumors, as well as the challenges involved.
We participated in the session as experts and gave a presentation titled "Pitfalls: experience with delayed reconstruction for distal tumors, catastrophic cases". Moderator Rustem Topuzov (St. Petersburg) presented "For: technique of transanal mesorectal excision. Our functional and oncological outcomes". Another expert, Ilya Chernikovsky (Moscow), gave a presentation titled "Against: antegrade robotic intersphincteric resection".
